What a fun day…
August 25th, 2009
and it didn't rain!
Well, a little shower at 3 but that helped wash away the snow cone drippings.
My "baby" is three.....Damn, where does time go? I remember driving home with the radio off, two hands on the wheel and reaching a top speed of 35mph like it happened yesterday. He had his three year old check-up today and Dr. Ben said he is the heathest he has ever been. Thank you God. His momma said he didn't shed a tear when he got his shot either! It's hard to be humble when your son is the cutest and smartest child ever born, but I try.
All of his friends had a blast except one little girl found an ant bed, bless her heart. Some quick medical attention and a red snow cone cleared her up quick though...
We kept the food simple this year, I just threw some hot dogs on the grill and mom fixed up cut fruit served in a watermelon basket she carved. I have done lots of those for different parties in the past and the same thing always happens, nobody wants to mess it up and it doesn't get eaten. The forty-eight hot dogs meanwhile disappeared in record time.

Some highlights:
Jack got hit with the pinata stick
Superman came
Silly Dilly the clown covered Jack in ballons
Two kids collided in the moon bounce
Mom stayed in the shade
One child pooped their pants (not in the pool thankfully)
We ran out of beer.....
A great day and a great birthday party.
Don't tell Jack but Superman was really Evan, my friend from work, who did an awesome job. Jack was in awe. After Superman left Jack looked at me and said"Just like a real person daddy!". The suit has to go back today and of course I had to put it on and take pictures last night after Jack was in bed. Enjoy. Just another example of me not taking myself too serious. I will try to download a photo of Jack and the real Superman next week.
Thanks for checking back in....
do good things.

Hi Jamie,
Sounds like Jack had a successful birthday!!! The birthdays seem to come so fast, before you know it, he will be asking for the car keys.
I must say you make a good looking superman, and very slim!! The million dollar question, when wearing the suit did you feel you could concur all evil?
Take care and have a great week.

So that’s why you have lost weight and been working out. You just wanted to put on the Superman Costume! LOL! It sounds like the party was a success. The pictures on Twitter were really cute.
Have a good week, Jamie and Bobby.

I know what you mean about it not seeming possible that Jack could already be three. My little granddaughter is within just a few days of being born on the same day as Jack. We had her birthday party on Saturday, and she wanted the Wizard of Oz. Of course she was the cutest “Dorothy”. Enjoy these times because before you know it he will be grown up and having a blog talking about his children. As my mother use to say, “Time waits for noone”.
Have a great day and thanks for sharing your family with all of us.

Jamie,
That is the best Superman pose I have ever seen! lol From the sound of it, the children and adults had a blast…. Your description of driving Jack home for the first time, reminds me of the first time I had my niece in the car. I had a fender bender (no damage to either car) at 5 MPH and cried like a baby because I just knew my sister would never let me keep my niece again. When my sister stopped laughing at me, she told me not to worry about that because I would have to pay her back in babysitting.
Deb M., Bless her heart is typically used before saying whatever negative thing you want to say about someone. It removes the guilt you should feel (from the southern perspective). Ex: Bless her heart, she sure is not that bright. or Bless his heart, his elevator does not go all the way to the top.

Hey Jamie,
Jack’s party had to be the coolest birthday party ever….especially since it was Superman. I am a HUGE superman fan. I was so excited to see the pictures that Bobby sent thru Twitter during the party. So glad y’all had such a great time. My niece turns 2 on Sept. 15th….can’t wait for her party. I am making some special food for her party. Everything is going to be “Polka Dots” and my sister wants all the food to be “circles”. I have thought of a few ideas but could really use some more suggestions. It’s going to be a “lunch time” party so we gotta have some food that is filling. If you or anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Anyway…congrats on getting the first copies of your new book. I can’t wait to see it and I can’t wait to see you & Bobby at your book signing in AL. Tell Bobby HEY for me and Thanks for all the Twitter updates & pictures.

Hi Jamie,
It sounds like Jack had a lovely birthday. I can’t believe you ran out of beer!
Jack was so strong by not crying to get his shots. Those hurt!!! Poor boy!!!
Bobby needs to start his own blog? He does a very good job at tweeter! He’s tweeter page is my favorite web-site! I like his pictures!! When are you going to start answering are questions?
Well to go! Talk to y’all next week?
bye, bye Melisa

Hey Jamie!! Glad to hear Jack had a great birthday. He’s such a little stud muffin (with butter on top, of course.) Maybe you should rent that Superman costume again and be him for Halloween…Bobby should go as Batman!
Take care and God Bless. Go Sundevils!!!!!!!

Sounds like a great party! I love parties..and kids parties..but they sure have worn me out..and my oldest is just almost 9.
Hey, I have a question. A few weeks ago, I got a salad at the restaurant..with it I had Parmesan Peppercorn dressing. It was so good. I checked online to see if I could buy it, but I didn’t see that kind. So, was that something that y’all don’t market, a new recipe, or did the waiter just tell me wrong? I’d love more!

Jack really didn’t need to see you in the suit to think you are Superman! Daddys are always their little boys’ Super Heroes. Glad you were able to find someone to dress up as him at the party. Sounds like it was a blast.

Poop and pools…UGH!!!! Boy do I have stories about that! You are lucky that is not where the accident happened! Glad his day was great!
Kristina on August 26 2009
Hey Joey, maybe you could take a biscuit cutter and make circles in slices of bread for round sandwiches. You could put chicken salad or tuna on them for your finger sandwiches. What about stuffing tomatoes with tuna fish. Just a thought.

Of course Jack is the cutest and smartest kid! I have yet to meet a parent who thinks his child is ugly and dumb!!
Glad the party went well. All those little mishaps are what make it memorable . . . and having family and friends to celebrate!
All the best,

Thanks for inviting us to the party….we had a great time. And I hate to tell you….the older you get…the older they get. Just breaks my heart my babies are all grown…and now most of my grandbabies all grown. But what a wonderful life & experience we have had!! Heading off to Myrtle Beach this time next week….one of these days going to make it to Savannah!! Love to all…. Brenda

Hi Jamie,
Great picture of you! I’m glad the party went well for Jack. It’s so fun to watch their expressions when they meet someone like Superman and Santa. Makes it all that much more special.
Have a great week!

Hey Joey,
Below are a few suggestions that you could use to make circles from food.
1. Cut Raw carrots into slices.
2. If you have an apple corer, you could core the apple then slice it into circles.
3. Clean and Cut potatoes (don’t peel them) into slices, add bbq sauce, cheese, and bacon. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Those are really yummy too.
4. Use a Cookie or Buscuit cutter to cut bread, cake, etc. You could also use that to form your food in those shapes on a plate.
5. You can make a ring with crescent rolls and stuff food in them. I have a recipe I can send you for that if you want to try it. It is pretty easy to make and really good.

Hey Jamie!
Please read this…please!
I posted on the old blog a few months back…asking advice for a trip to Savannah..what to do, etc. You responded in your blog which was really cool of you. My husband and I had not traveled in 5 years..mainly due to the economy and lack of funds. We had saved and my husband had worked 2 jobs to get things ready for a much needed vacation..where to go? We chose your darling city of Savannah and let me just say…we left a piece of our heart there when we left. We loved your city. We took a trolley tour and enjoyed the history. We visited Tybee (as you suggested) and loved that too! This was my husbands first trip to the ocean..he was in awe! We went to your uncle’s place and ate grouper and loved that! We were amazed, pleased, and delighted with everything. The cream of the crop for the trip was your final suggestion which we had already planned…a trip to ya’ll’s restaurant! Yes, as you can guess…WE LOVED IT! The food was delicious, the restaurant was so nice, and the employees were wonderful. Those people worked so hard and our visit made a memory we will never forget. We have been married for 11 years & when we first married…let me tell ya..the boy almost starved. I couldn’t cook anything! I wanted to learn and after finding your mom years later…I learned how and developed a love of cooking. Now, my family brags on my cooking and suggests for me to try new things all the time. They look forward to my next masterpiece. It is wonderful. (Also, gained many pounds..but whose counting?) We will never forget the trip and adored the city so much that we are dreaming of coming again soon! Thanks so much for listening to my last blog and this new longer one too! Your mom has inspired me and you are lucky to have her. She is America’s sweetheart, really! Have a question…our trip was during the week of July 20-25. We left Savannah on Thursday morning because I hadn’t noticed in the blog that you were all going to be at the restaurant the very next day….I was crushed. We had reservations and HAD to move on. It was horrible. Question is…what are the chances of getting a signed book via mail? We may not get to travel again for a long time and I would be over the moon about it. I understand if this is not possible…just thought I would try…always worth trying. I will hope and pray for a “yes”
The morning of our visit, we stood in line from 7:30-9:30 in the rain..and it was all worth it. Enjoying the blog..keep it up..look forward to the new book..we all like to take it easy, huh? Your friends in Kentucky, Effie & Kristy
