My first blog interview!
March 31st, 2011
Hey y’all,
Welcome back to the blog. I’ve been thinking about something new that I can share with y’all. I decided that since I get interviewed so much, I was going to start interviewing y’all!
So, if you ever come down to The Lady and Sons restaurant, and I run into you, there’s a good chance I might pull my phone out and interview you about who you are, where you’re from, what brought you to Savannah, and what you’re going to do while you’re in town.
This mornin’ for my first interview, I chose a woman that was so excited to see me at the restaurant, and all of her family was giving her a hard time because she loves to scrapbook. I took a picture with her and all her family, and then she made me take a picture by myself for all her scrapbookin’. So, I said, “If you’re going to put me in your scrapbook, then I’m going to put you in my blog.” I had a chance to visit with her a little bit this afternoon and here’s what happened:
What a wonerful interview. I still remember my first Paula Deen encounter. It was before food network and she was working hard in the restaurant. She came out of the kitchen to greet the guests. I was at a table by myself and she asked if everything was ok. I said yes. Then I told her that she looked exhausted and told her to sit and rest. She did. We talked about rrstaurant business since I am partner with my parents. The ups and downs. She offered me a job… of course as a joke. It was a great memory. I have been back several times, but that first time was my favorite. I cant wait until my next visit.
paul doster on March 31 2011
That sounded like fun! I keep saying that I am going to come to the resturant one day, guess I just need to do it, especially since I am only about 70 miles away!
Can’t wait to hear some more of your impromtu blogs..maybe I will be the crazy & excited patron that you interview. Good luck with the upcoming arrival of your families new addition.

Hey Jamie!
That blog interview was great! She is from my city of Winston-Salem, NC. I am so sad that I will not be able to see your mom in Jamestown, NC this Monday.:( I work at a preschool in High Point, NC with 3 yr. olds and I will be working then. I hope meet you someday. I saw your mom’s show in Cherokee at Harrah’s last Sept. Our family came down to Savannah this past summer and ate at Uncle Bubba’s for lunch and The Lady and Sons for supper. Missed seeing ya. Love the blog interviewing idea!! We have a tradition and come every December to go see The Journey at Savannah Christian Church, then we come to Lady & Son’s the following day for lunch! This year will be our 5th year with this tradition. However, if you let me know in advance when you are going to be at Lady and Son’s we will make a special trip to Savannah from Greenville SC for an interview! Would love to meet your brother and Paula if they are available also!! I am also a professional photographer and would be happy to take some good portraits of you guys also if you would like. Jamie, Loved you interview with your customer, what a thrill that must have been for her. 4 years ago my Mama, my Granddaughter who was 4 at the time and my Daughter in law at that time came to Savannah. My Grand daugher and I watched your Moms show all the time and She told everyone we were going to her house and see her while we were there. So we had to come up with something to satisfy her so we went on the Paula Deen Tour. We did get to see you and your Mom at Uncle Bubbas and you would have thought that she had seen Santa Claus or Micky Mouse it was just wonderful. Everything was just built around you all then. Loved it all!!!!
Linda Taylor on March 31 2011
Jamie, I met and talked with you the last time I was in Savannah. We talked about Mutual of Omaha and the fact you had dated the daughter of Jim Fowler of the Wild Kingdom t.v. show. I have met all of you except Bobby and the most special one, Ms.Paula. I want to meet and talk with her someday. Congrats on the news of another little boy being born to you and Brooke.. Have ya’ll chosen a name yet?

Love the first blog. My husband and I live in Central Florida and have been to Savannah several times over the years and love to come to the restuarant. When I tell him to pack a bag we’re going to dinner, he knows exactly where we are headed. Have never had the opportunity to meet you, your brother or mom, but maybe one day. I too am a scrapbooker and have pictures in our album of us out front waiting for dinner. Congradulations on the new baby

Hi Jamie, I was disappointed that I didn’t see you at the Lady & Sons on my visit to Savannah March 3,2011. I love your Mom so much and that chicken pot pie was calling my name. Had a wonderful lunch with my Dad and Uncle Paul. I did get to meet Michael and Aunt Peggy over at Uncle Bubba’s after we walked around Savannah, and stopped there for daquiris:o) I got a picture with Michael and he was kind enough to give me an address to send your Mom a special handmade gift I did for her. He said she would definitely get it there in Thunderbolt. I can’t wait for her to see it and it was delivered today March 31st. Let her know to check, I’m so excited for her to see it, I had her name embroidered on the top, it’s as special as she is to me and my Dad. Take care sweetie and I hope one day to meet you, Bobby and of course that sweet Mom of yours. God bless you and your family. All my best, Lisa

I have been a huge fan of Paula Deen for years. After I discovered the Food Network channel the only shows I would watch were Paula Deen. My husband and son purchased me my first Paula Deen cook book, autobiography and a little Christmas book by Paula Deen for Christmas a few years back. Now that we have DVR I can record my favorite Paula cooking shows and watch them over and over. I love how your family is so close and that you really did come from humble beginnings when you started with Food Network. It is hard to believe that you were ever nervous about being in front of the camera. Would love to visit your restaurant sometime, I just haven’t made it as far as Savannah. We live in Oklahoma and travel to the Smokey Mountains and to visit part of my famiy in Ringgold, GA. One day we are just going to have to travel on to Savannah and hopefully you will be in the restaurant that day. Meeting you would be the ULTIMATE dream come true
Wishing you and your boys many more years of success!

Awesome blog interview! I cook very similar to your mom, and I enjoy watching your mom’s TV show and I especially enjoy her show when she has you boys on her show. Maybe some day you all will come to Colorado Springs, Colorado for a visit. I do not believe I will make it down south any time soon, as I have been crippled from a car accident, but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy the show, all the fabulous recipes, and just your whole family. Thank you for sharing your lives with all of us that are huge fans!

I had hoped she would get to see you, but no such luck. I pray that one day we can come back again and this time get to meet with you. I have tried some of your recipes and so has my friend Dena…we love them all.

Hi Jamie,
Great interview! I had the opportunity to come to Savannah a few years ago and enjoyed eating at the Lady and Sons. After flying from San Francisco to Houston to Savannah (all the same day) it was great that night to sit down to comfort food. I hope one day to return and see more of your city, only next time not in the summer!!!
Take care and have a great week.

I admire your Mother very much and feel that she is a wonderful encouragement for many young women. We are about the same age and from the same era. My upbringing was in MO. so we do share some of the same memories.
Congratulations on your second son.

Jamie, I am so excited about our upcoming trip the last of May to Savannah. Our church group is going for a 3 day trip. I retired in November from our school board, so I am finally able to go on these church trips. Low and behold, the first one is to Savannah, lunch at The Lady and Sons. I am an avid Food Network watcher, Paula has been my favorite for years. It would make my day if I got a chance to see any of the Deen family while we are in Savannah. I love to watch Paula’s show especially if you or Bobby are on it with her. So hope to see you all in May and maybe get to hear “Love and Best Dishes from Our House to Yours”. God bless.

Enjoyed my fourth visit at Lady & Sons last Sunday. I remember my first time there in Sept 04. You were so busy, but yet you took time to talk to as many people as you could and still make sure the buffet was perfect, merchandise was correct and every one was happy. You, your Mom, brother and Uncle Bubba (ate there Monday) have all worked so hard and been so dedicated to your patrons. Also, I do enjoy your cooking videos..your Mom could take a vacation and know that her show is still in good hands. Congrats on the pending addition to the family as well. See you again soon.

Jamie, my husband and I were in Savannah last fall. I love your mom’s cooking show and was anxious to meet her, and you guys. But none of you were there. The buffet was wonderful, down home cooking like in Louisiana . We went on the Paula Deen tour, and went to Uncle Bubba’s. We had a great time and want to go back again. I left some unprocessed brown sugar for Paula at the restaurant. I had gotten it from a sugar mill where I was working .I sure hope that she got it, and enjoying cooking with it.

One of the things that I love about your family is that y’all have such a way of making people feel special and right at home. I always joke I wasn’t born in the south, but I got here as fast as I could. Your family is a great example of why! Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats good ol’ southern hospitality.
And completely unrelated, those Easy Biscuit Doughnuts of yours are the bomb! Just saying…

I am soooo excited! My husband works for a race car series and they are traveling to Oglethorpe Speedway Park on 6/3/11 and to Screven Motor Speedway on 6/4/11 so he has promised me that he will take me to the Lady and Sons to eat. I lost my job in 2009 after 25 years of being loyal to the company so now I do get to travel with my husband more.I am looking forward to eating the food but more excited about hopefully meeting Paula and her sons. That is a dream that I have had ever since I first watched Cooking with Paula Deen. I am so content when I am in the kitchen cooking. And I read cookbooks like most people read the newspaper. Cookng is my passion. So I am praying that this dream of mine will come to realty.

Hi Bobby,
I love watching you all cook on your Mom’s shows.
I’ve been to The Lady and Son’s back in Dec 2007 with The USS Salem group. Although I did not run into any of you I can honestly say the visit awesome. We all ate downstairs for the buffet for lunch. We shopped in the stores and got our pictures taken with the Paula poster (it’s the closest we could get to Paula LOL). My mom was with me and thorough enjoyed our visit. We hope to return to Savannah GA and eat at the restaurant again. Maybe next time we’ll get to meet one or all of you.
As specifically for you Bobby, I love your sense of humor. You and your Mom together make me laugh all the time. It’s a joy to watch you all cooking.

Hey Jamie!
I just wanted to say thanks again for a wonderful time at the Lady and Sons last week. The food was absolutley delicious and the staff was awesome (especially Matt!). I was so suprised when you asked me to do an interview with you! You were definitely the highlight of my trip to Savannah. You will be featured in a full double page spread in my scrapbook, LOL. From the looks of your blog comments, your fans welcome the idea too. I can’t wait until your and Bobby’s new cookbook “all fired up” comes out later this month. As I mentioned before my husband does most of the cooking so when he uses the grill that means the less I have to clean
. I sure wished I could have made it over to the furniture market today to meet your mom. She was about 30 minutes from my hometown but spring break week is over and it is back to the grind. Congratulations to you and Brook on the upcoming arrival of your second son. I am sure Jack is ready to welcome his new baby brother. Who knows what the next generation of Deen bros will bring to the table!
Take Care,

It was a pleasure meeting you at the 2011 Mayor’s SB Conference. Your address spoke volumes regarding your perseverance, loyalty and committment to the Deen brand and your love for your family…an awesome balance! You and Bobby are continuing a great legacy. So off we went from Sarasota, Fl to Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA and St Augustine, FL. I’m sorry we missed you then but I hope to be back again soon! Hi Jamie - WOW - all I can say is when we were in Savannah for the Bethesda benefit (my daughter Samantha and I) as soon as we got to the house you were the first one we saw. I was “awe-struck” if that is a word and you were so pleasant and took pictures and put us at ease and to this day I will NEVER EVER forget that encounter. Later when we took pictures with your Mom in the kitchen I started crying it was so exciting to be standing there with her, and then Bobby and you were in the kitchen so there was more pictures. I can go on and on, you have ALWAYS responded to my kids letters and requests for autographs and I am always so grateful. I keep expecting the more famous you get the less responses to our requests but so far you continue to autograph our cookbooks and respond to my tweets and even email from Samantha. I will never be able to express how wonderful you and your brother have been and how much joy the “Deen Family” brings us. Michael is just as wonderful, I have had the pleasure of seeing him not only at the benefit but when he and your Mom were on the Bonnie Hunt show I took the day off work, drove 5 hours down south and enjoyed the show and the banana pudding. I think I already said I can go on and on and I sort of am going on and on but as a HUGE fan I appreciate everything you do and continue to do
Oh, I ordered your bbq sauce and it is DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
