It’s My Favorite Day of the Year
June 17th, 2011
Hey y’all,
I’ve always enjoyed Father’s Day. It was a day that we always knew that we were going to take it easy around the house, ‘cause unlike Mother’s Day where Bobby and Daddy and I did everything we could to make Momma feel like a princess, when it was Father’s Day all Daddy wanted was to just take it easy- and to maybe go outside and do the grill, or stay inside and watch the race. So Father’s Day, when I was growin’ up, was always an eeeeasy day for us.
And as I became a father, now I look forward to a day where, you know, Brooke and Jack kind fuss over me a little bit, and of course with Matthew here this year I get to double my love on my Father’s Day weekend. Jack has already started! Last week he gave me a homemade Father’s Day card and he came in the door yesterday and said, “Don’t look, Daddy! Don’t look!” So, I don’t know what he’s got planned for me. But I think what Brooke’s got realized, and what Jack doesn’t realize is that the only thing that I want on Father’s Day is to spend time with my boys and with Brooke, and a lot like my dad when I was younger- just to take it easy and have a nice quiet day without a lot of fuss or muss. I don’t ask for Brooke to cook me anything special. I don’t want or need anything in the world, except to be covered with kisses from Jack, and I’m really enjoying Matthew. We’ll take some sweet pictures this year. That’s a tradition that we started. I’ve got my Father’s Day pictures that I keep in my office at home of Jack and me. And Matthew will join the lineup this year.
It’s been a long month, you know Matthew’s just turned a month old- and Bobby and I were in NYC. It was my first night away from home, and it wasn’t easy for me. I hate to be too far away from my family. And knowing that Brooke had two boys by herself- you know I was worried about her. But of course she did perfect. I got home and everybody was safe and sound. I’ve been so busy between work, and Jack is a million miles and hour during the day, and Matthew is – well he’s a month old, and you know how that goes. I tell people that I’ve got one that sleeps all day and one that sleeps all night. So we’re a well-balanced family.
I might sneak out the door early on Sunday morning and do some fishing. I hadn’t had a chance to do anything off by myself. I haven’t been to the gun club, or gone out and play golf. So I think around 5 o’clock in the morning or so, I might get out and get some fishing done. I love being outside and enjoying the peace and quiet, and there’s no place quieter than a country pond at 5:30 or 6 o’clock on a Sunday morning.
Well, y’all take it easy, and thank you for checking back in. I know I’m kinda got my blogs on a hit or miss right now. I know you understand that I’ve been so busy. I also want to send out a special big thanks to Deb M., Rose, and Andrea for sending me an early birthday present. I’ve got a birthday comin’ at the end of this month and those girls never forget me, and I never forget them. I appreciate it girls! So y’all get out there this weekend and do something good for your Daddy. And if you don’t have a Daddy, then get back out there and do something good for somebody else! Thanks for checking back in, y’all. And Happy Father’s Day to my own dad! I love you!
Do good things,
Jamie

Jamie,
As a country girl myself who has fished a many-a-pond around and river, I wish you a morning of your cork disappearing and large bass or bream, whatever you’re fishing for! Enjoy your solitude and God’s glorious nature created for us to enjoy in the morning. You are VERY blessed and you realize it and most importantly, are thankful for it, which makes it all the sweeter.
If you’re ever in Eastern NC, we can hook you up with some great White Perch fishing on the Albemarle Sound out from Mackey’s Ferry.
Take care and God Bless you and your whole family. You’re a blessing to us so much!

Hey Jamie,
You were missed today at the book signing in Alabama, but I wish you could have seen and heard the way Bobby described his love for you, the father you are and the family you have created. Your brother is very proud of you and he represented himself and you extremely well. You are where you belong right now and that is home enjoying life.

I live in AZ and may be moving to the Savannah area for a job (hopefully!). I have heard mixed things about where are the safest places to live there, so since you’re from there, can you tell me some of the top, most affordable places to set up camp? Thank you, and congratulations on your new little boy! Have a wonderful father’s day. ![]()

Hope you had a relaxing Father’s Day and was able to get a little fishin’ in. Enjoy this time in your life (honestly - I think you do) before you know those boys will be taggin’ along with their poles! Please give my best to your lovely wife and kiss those boys foreheads from Mrs. Lucky.

Hey y’all. I was in Savannah the day after fathers day,( passing through), and I stopped for lunch at Lady and sons. The food was so good. Home cooking flavor. I wish I had one of these in my town. (Cincinnati, Ohio). The servers were awesome, very friendly. My server was Brandy, and I was going to go back to get some more of the great cornbread at the buffet area, and she offered to get it for me, and she did. Yes they go out of the way to make sure you feel good about the dinning experience. Thank You

Happy late Father’s Day Jamie! I hope it was wonderful, I’m sure it was with Jack and Matthew
I can’t believe Matthew is already a month old - I like your “balanced family” comment. It’s so true, one that sleeps all day and one that sleeps all night. That statement makes me smile!

Hi Jamie,
I want to begin this note by saying how much I love to watch Paula with her two sons. I was not blessed to have any children and sometimes I have to hold back the tears when I witness just how much you boys love your mom and just the relationship you seem to have with her. There are times when I truly feel incomplete and sometimes it’s when I am watching you and your brother with your mom. Also, one thing that I am very eager to do, is visit Lady and Sons. Thank you for allowing me to write to you. I am watching the show right now and Dustin is on it. Have a great day.

Hi Jamie my name is sheri whitt and i was wondering if your brother bobby was in a relationship. I’ve been emailing ur mama and you and him i suppose its so hard to get in touch with someone on television and i’ve never attempted to do this. i know he probably hears this all the time from women but i truly wanna get to know him, he has a love of food like me and i would love to cook in the kitchen with him and have a decent conversation, and get to know him. I used to live in Rome, GA for 2-3 years and i loved it there, so im probably gonna move back after my schooling.

I found your lighter side fried chicken recipe on Dr. Oz. I will prepare it because I can figure my Weight Watchers Points with the nutritional facts you provided. Do the recipes in your books provide the same info per recipe?

Hey Jamie, I’m very excited about Bobby’s new show but I am wondering whatever happened to your show starting, “The Family Table”? Did I miss something?
Thanks!

I watch your mother’s show most days and always enjoy it when you are on. I see alot of Bobby but rarely see you. I know that Bobby has a TV show coming up; I was wondering what your future holds. I know you are busy with the family and other prospects, but would really enjoy seeing more of you on TV.
Best wishes to you and your family.

The question was asked on FB from The Daily Meal - Who do you side with, Paula or Tony. Thought you might like my response. When I am good, I’m good. ![]()
Also, when I watch her and others chefs and cooks on the Food Network or The Cooking Channel, I am learning techniques and get plenty of ideas. Tony baby, I watched you twice on No Reservations and that was twice too many. You are rude and obnoxious and you should never start a fight with someone better than you. At least Paula is a gracious woman who has probably, no most definitely worked hard her whole life. Just curious, how many kids did YOU raise to be such fine, hard working and caring men. Blow it otr your ass Tony.
What do ya think? Have a great day.
