It’s another scorcher y’all!
July 20th, 2011
Hey y’all,
Jamie here and I’m back with another blog post. Man, this has been a real scorcher of a month here in Savannah. We’ve had so many days with the heat index near or over 100 degrees- it’s just about hot enough to fry an egg on your head.
So Brooke and I have been trying to find ways to cool off with the kids this summer. Jack loves to play outside in the summer, and when he’s done, there’s nothing like a bowl of cool ice cream to help chill things out. Of course, Brooke and I can’t resist taking a spoonful here and there for ourselves as well. One of our favorite ice cream recipes to whip up is our Fresh Georgia Peach and Brown Sugar Ice Cream. It’s real creamy and sweet, and just what the doctor ordered to help beat the heat. Of course, little Matthew James isn’t quite old enough to enjoy grown up ice cream, but we figure he’ll take a liking to it as well when he is.
Also, Bobby and Uncle Bubba sat down and did a podcast the other day. So I’m sure he’ll be posting that soon- be on the look out.
Alright, I gotta run, but I just wanted to check in with y’all. Until next time…
Do good things,
Jamie
So nice to hear from you - sounds like things are going well with Matthew. I think I’ll try your ice cream today, it is starting to get warm again and the kids and I love love love ice cream! We have been quite lucky, we had a few 100+ degrees then it cooled off. We’ve been enjoying 80’s and a cool breeze. The rest of the week it’s supposed to be in the 90’s again, nothing like what you’ve been experiencing, that’s for sure.
Until next time…
With much love and admiration - Tracey/Turlock CA

Hi Jamie,
We are finally getting some warm weather here in the SF Bay Area. This has been the coldest summer I can ever remember. Enjoyed the podcast, have fun in DC.
Take care and keep cool!!!!!

So happy to hear about another healthy boy - Matthew! I appreciate so much you and Bobby taking some of your Mama’s recipes (among others) and making them lighter for those of us with weight issues and/or health issues! They sound great and I will be trying some of them soon! Also I want to try YOUR fried pickles, we love bread and butter pickles but all of the fried pickles we have tried were dill…. YUK! My husband and I have said “why wouldn’t this be better made with sweet or bread & butter pickles?” When I saw your recipe I could have done flips! “Finally, what we’ve been thinking all along!” Best wishes (and dishes) to all the Deen (and Groover) clan!

Quick question..
I haven’t heard you say anymore about The Family Table. Are there plans for it to still air?

Hey Jamie,
We are also hot in Ohio! The heat index for the past week has been well over a 100. I too welcomed a son this past year. He is eight months old, and I also have a five year old, so time to myself is seldom to none! I enjoy every minute of being a father. I simply cannot remember life without my children. Take care. I continue to wish you and your family the best.

Very hot here in Florida too! We beat the heat with my brothers Italian Ice! He turns delicious fruits into Ice along with rich chocolates and nuts! It is a wonderful way to keep cool around the pool on those hot summer days! Looking forward to the podcast! We ate at Uncle Bubba’s while visiting Savannah for the Blood Drive and the “Shrimp and Grits” were AMAZING! So delicious! I am look forward to my next trip back to Savannah to visit soon heat and all!

Hi Jamie,
Glad to hear you’re doing well and finding ways to stay cool! I always enjoy reading your blogs. You had me laughing with frying the egg on your head. I just use the sidewalk here! ![]()
Have a great week!

Hey Jamie,
We just got back from Texas visiting relatives. Boy, was it hot there! I was so sad to see the terrible dry conditions there in Texas. We need to send some prayers their way for some much needed rain! I too, were wondering about “The Family Table?” I see all these shows on the Food Network, but not Yours. Is it about waiting your turn or what? Some of these shows I just didn’t get why they would appeal to us. I think The Family Table would be a excellent choice now because of the way people are trying to survive in this economy. Helping the local farmers too. Could you give us any info. about this in your next blog maybe? Thanks for all you do to keep us informed.

We visited Savannah last Friday the 5th of August just to visit Lady and Sons. It was everything we thought it would be. The food was delicious! We celebrated our 40th anniversary last weekend in Savannah. Fort Pulaski was a hit as well.
