Get ready, get set…..

Go!
The tour starts up next week and we are busy lining everything up.
Bobby and I have three interviews this morning and we are planning our book launch here in Savannah next week. Y'all load up and head down next Thursday night and join us from five to seven at The Paula Deen Store. We will be signing books and celebrating the release of Take It Easy, mom is gonna introduce us and stick around to meet everybody.
The national debut of the book is coming up next Wednesday on Good Morning America. I am still kicking around ideas for the food.....
I am trying to get over having our tour start at the same time that my Bulldogs kick off the college football season! I can live with not seeing a game until late November...barely. We travel out to play Oklahoma State University this Saturday. It's a tough first game but I know the Dawgs are gonna hunker down and bring home a victory.
Hey Joey, your circle party sounds like a great idea. It just so happens our new book has a "Jack's Favorite's" section and there is a great circle food. Take a canned biscuit, flatten it out and spread a little marinara sauce on it, top it with your fave ingredients, add cheese, bake it off and Shazaam! Homemade pizza that's easy, quick and yes, circles.
Melisa, I am slowly chipping away at y'all's questions. Don't give up on me...
Alyce, I loooove that peppercorn dressing too. We make all of our dressing's in house except the ranch and peppercorn, it's our food distributors house brand. I haven't tried a lot of different parmesan peppercorn brands at the grocery store but you may just poke around and find a good one. The next time you are in town let me know and I will send you home with a gallon.
Effie and Kristy made it to Savannah! I'm glad you had such a big time, sorry I missed you. I don't know what has happened to all my time except that it's not mine anymore. You are not the first people to travel here and think about changing your address.
Lastly, welcome to Harriet who says she is new to the computer and old to boot. Well Harriet, you and I have a few things in common. Thanks for writing in and to all of y'all for checking back in....I will try to keep up to date with the blog during the next few weeks. I really hope we are coming to where you are during our tour and if we do be sure and come out to say "Hey Y'all"!
Do good things
-jamie
Hi Jamie,
The best to you and Bobby on your new book and the tour, I’m sure it will be a great success!! I pre-ordered my book when it first appeared on your web site so I suspect I will be getting it soon. Looking forward to seeing the new recipes. Wish the San Francisco Bay Area was on your tour list, maybe next time.
Post pictures of the opening events, better yet, can you start a picture album of the tour?
Have a great week!!

Hey Jamie!! We are leaving this Sunday for North Myrtle Beach and we are seriously thinking about heading to Savannah when we leave the beach on Thursday so I can attend the book signing. All of this would be for my big 35 birthday on 9/11. The only issue I have is wondering how long we would have to stand in line to see you guys since we have a 16 month old. Any advice?!?!?!
april nelson on September 01 2009
Jamie,
So excited about the new book and getting to see y’all at one of the book signings. I’ll be watching for the GMA appearance next week. Have fun and be safe!
P.S. You make a fab Superman!
Gina on September 01 2009
Safe travels, boys! We’re counting down the days until our Savannah trip and the book signing on the 19th! I wish we would have planned our trip a week earlier so we could have attended the one at the restaurant and seen your momma. I think I can “settle” on just the two of you though. ![]()
Be safe!

Hi Jamie (and Bobby):
Wishing you great success with your book tour! Hope it is all that you expect and more!!
I read your interview with tampabay.com this morning. Will definitely try at least 3 out of the 4 recipes they printed in it.
It was great to read that you will be appearing on so many episodes of your Mom’s show - looking forward to them. Also have my fingers crossed that FN can come up with a show format for you.
And Bobby, don’t be such a ‘doomsayer’. I’m sure you know this… Making someone else happy has a way of bringing happiness back to you. Best of luck!
Kate from MA on September 01 2009
Hey Jamie..
I wish yall did make that dressing, cause it was so delish…but since I didn’t find it online, I did go searching the grocery store last week. What I found was a Kraft Ceasar Vinaigrette with Parmesan. (no peppercorn)...I’ve yet to try it so I don’t know how it tastes..but since you’ve said the next time I come down there you’ll send me home w/ a gallon, I will hold you to it!! We are hoping to get down there for our 10th wedding anniversary in December. I’ll be looking for some dressing!!
Best wishes next week on the tour kick off!

Hey Jamie,
THANK YOU so much for the suggestion for the “circles” party. I am definitely going to fix those pizzas cause I am sure they will be a hit. And Hormel makes “mini pepperoni” which would be so cute on them. These should be great. I am so excited about my neice’s party. Can’t believe she is turning 2. Anyway….I also can’t wait to see the new cookbook. Counting down the days til my copy arrives in the mail. Counting down the days til you & Bobby’s tour stop in Alabama too…can’t wait to meet y’all. Thanks again for the suggestion and for all you do. Tell Bobby HEY for me…..

Marina and Kate…
What article?
Sherri SC on September 02 2009
Hi Deb M:
I was still referring to the tampabay.com/St. Petersburg Times interview where Bobby indicated that he has a girl that he is “crazy about”. In the same breath, he intimates that because of that “it’s probably ‘doomed’.” That’s just bad mojo! I was suggesting that he Think Positive.
I’ve never met Bobby (or Jamie) and likely never will, but I became a fan of their “Road Tasted” show when I caught the Portland, Maine episode. I’ve followed their career ever since. And actually became a fan of Paula’s as a result (I think it usually happens to people the other way around). I think that you can fake alot on TV but there’s alot you can’t fake. And they come across as truly good people and I like to see good things happen to good people. That’s why I gave my unsolicited advice. If it works out for him, he’ll be breaking alot of hopeful hearts, but…he’s entitled to much happiness.
Okay, I’m shutting up now—probably said too much already!! Sorry for butting in, Bobby. Sometimes I just can’t help myself - must be the Italian in me!
Kate from MA on September 02 2009
I just caught that article. I agree with you Kate…a lot of hearts will be, or are being broke right now….
So Bobby, who is the luck lady…wasn’t too long ago you were still single….
Sherri on September 02 2009
Hi Jamie,
Best wishes for a great start to your book tour next week. I’m looking forward to getting my copy of the book. Love the recipes that you have already shared, actually made the rosemary chicken, it came out great!
I wish I could get to Savannah for a signing, especially since the West Coast was left out of the tour….
with the exception of Pasadena. That’s ok, next time…right, Guys….Jamie…Bobby…?? West Coast loves you too.
Bobby, my congratulations to you! I wish both of you the best. Don’t pay attention to breaking hearts, you’re happy, that’s what’s important here. So many of us are VERY happy for you! Enjoy your time together and keep us posted if you can on the “set date”!!! Much happiness to you!
Have a wonderful week!

Hey Boys,
I’m so glad that you guys put out a new book and can’t wait to meet you in Pasadena in Oct. So good luck on your travels, but while you are out and about traveling these great states, maybe the two of you can do a good thing along with your readers for my company that work for The Cheesecake Factory, Inc. So here is my shameless plug and challenge for all of you to do and that’s to participate in the ‘Drive out Hunger Tour’ this month at The Cheesecake Factory restaurants. Over the next 30 (now more like 25 days :o) days my company along with Campbell’s soup is stopping at 30 different Cheesecake Factory restaurants collecting 2 cans of soup from our guests and in return, those first 500 guests to donate 2 cans of Campbell’s soup will receive a free slice of our new cheesecake called Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake™. I will say that ya’ll need to get there early because each event will have live music and a special gift for everyone. As of today we have collected 2721 cans of soup for those less fortunate so please stop buy and do good things for our fellow Americans. Below are the restaurants that the tour will be stopping at up to Sept. 13th. Once I get the rest of the stops I will post them at that time. Thanks for letting me do my shameless plug. :o)
• September 5th - Las Vegas
• September 6th – Phoenix
• September 7th – Denver
• September 8th – Dallas
• September 9th – Houston
• September 10th – Oklahoma City
• September 11th – Kansas City

Hi Jamie and Bobby!
I hope you got to watch the Georgia-OSU game. I am very sorry that your dawgs didn’t win…but stoked that my cowboys won! I knew I should have asked if you wanted to bet a new cookbook on the game
Ok…I won’t rub the win in again. I wanted you to know how excited I am about the new cookbook. I don’t think I will get to come to any of the book signings because the closest one is three hours away and on a week night. Very sad about that…but I will get one ordered.
Thanks for all of the great recipes and I hope your dawgs have a good season (as long as they don’t play my cowboys any more)!
Take Care,

Hello Deen brothers!
I don’t see it on your schedule but rumor has it ya’ll will be making a guest judge appearance for the Alabama Shrimp Festival. I hope the rumor is true and if it is, ya’ll will have to make a stop in at the Gulf Coast Culinary Institute. I’m Momma D, and I’m a 2nd year student there. I know, you’re probably wondering what in the world is someone named Momma D doing as a student. Well, I jumped ship from my civil service job with excellent pay and decided to do what I love…cook. What better way to explore it than an opportunity for culinary school. I also work as a prep cook for a restaurant called Les Roux, a Creole restaurant in Foley, AL. Stop on in sometime and get you a bowl of gumbo! Hope to see you guys at the Shrimp Festival!

Dear Jamie and Bobby,
I have never blogged with anybody before so here goes. My 82 year old mother and I are at Hilton Head for this week trying to celebrate my 50th Birthday. It’s been a tough very low keyed trip for us. You see the reservations for this trip were made by my sister, Mary on January 16th to surprise me. unfortunately, Mary suddenly and unexpectedly died at 12:30 am on January 18th. Mary was 53 and wonderful. I thought we might stop by the Lady and Sons at some point this week and now you have inspired us to do so on Thursday evening. Mary would have been thrilled to join us-really. Good luck with the new book!

Of course it would be greater if the signing was being done in Chicago!!!
How ever..it makes me think that you guys love your fans as much as we love you!
You can never know how that makes us feel.
You make us all believe we are famly. You have given us so much and now the tour….

Dear Jamie and Bobby,
Kudos, kudos, kudos on a fantastic cookbook. I actually took you two to bed with me on Friday night….the cookbook that is. Literally got out of bed Saturday morning and went straight to the kitchen to make the Mediterranean Chicken and Orzo Salad with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Pine Nuts (already had all the ingredients in house). Absolutely fantastic!! Fellow bloggers - this has to be one of the first recipes you try out of this book - it will quickly become a favorite. Had to share this recipe - so as soon as I made it I was bringing plates of it to my friend Susan of Seaside Sisters on Tybee Island (where I purchased the cookbook)and also to Diane, Owner of Mermaid Cottages. They too LOVED it. The beauty of this cookbook as you state is simplicity - but you can tell it doesn’t sacrifice flavor. Most recipes are 6 to 8 ingredients and I love the “a bit more, y’all” sections. Although geared for families - this is a perfect cookbook for even us single gals (or guys). I’m actually hosting my first “Deen Family Dinner (minus the Deen’s)” this Saturday at my home - the only pre-req is that all the goodies come from your family recipes/cookbooks.
Fellow bloggers - we had a nice article about the Deen brothers and their new cookbook in The Savannah Morning News today - here is the link to the story: http://savannahnow.com/accent/2009-09-12/deen-brothers-cookbook-focuses-family-ease
Question for you Jamie - I’m assuming the cute bulldawg in Take It Easy photos is yours?
Very happy at least one of my football teams won this weekend - because my KC Chiefs unfortunately logged a (L). Go Dawgs!!!
I host our second organizational meeting for the Savannah Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association on Monday night - so far so good. Our group is growing…slowly but surely.
Best of luck with the tour!
