Get Fired Up, y’all!
April 8th, 2011

Hey y’all,

Boy, it’s been a busy week here in a Savannah. But the weather has been absolutely killer, so I can’t really complain.

This week, I was honored with the opportunity to speak at the Mayor’s Small Business Conference, where I presented a keynote address. They asked me to speak about the challenges that Mom and me and Bobby had to over come as small business owners. It was really a special for me to be able to meet other local small business owners and share some of my family’s past experiences. The story of The Lady and Sons is one that I never get tired of telling. I started to get a little a choked up in the middle of my speech- I think it’s because I just swell with pride whenever I think about what my mom has built for our family.

Y’all can catch the video of me speaking here- it’s a little longer than you might have time for, but I get asked all the time for some advice on how to get a business going, so you never know- you might find it interesting.

Other than that, Bobby and I had a photoshoot for our next issue of The Deen Bros. Magazine. I’m super excited about it, because it’s going to be all about grilling. We’ve got a lot of exciting recipes for y’all to try.

Also, recently I was able to take Jack to one of our local elementary schools, May Howard. He was a big helper that day. We were there helping support their new Media Center and Library. Y’all, they are the only elementary school in Savannah with a media center that has an exemplary rating. So that’s a pretty big deal. Here’s a picture of me and Jack with some of the teachers over there. Jack a big day going through all of the books and meetin’ everybody. And yes, that’s a milk mustache on his face.

Can I get a drum roll? Bobby and I have big news comin’ up. Our next cookbook, The Deen Bros. Get Fired Up will finally be released this month on the 19th. It’s going to be awesome. Bobby and I are so pumped getting ready to head for the book tour. Check out our tour schedule to see if we’re coming to an area near you. We love meeting everybody that comes out for a signings. Who knows, I might even interview you for my blog!
That’s about all I’ve got time for today, y’all. Thanks for checking in, and until next time…

Do good things,
Jamie

Congrats on the new book tour! Sad, you won’t be coming my way but such is life. I met you guys a few times so I really can’t complain.

Loved the speech and GREAT job!

Jack is getting so big and so darn cute. He should be starting school soon? I hope Brooke is doing well with her pregnancy!

Love hearing about the family and things going on in your lives. I feel like an honorary Deen!

Take care, have a great weekend, and maybe I will get to see you guys again soon!

Hi Jamie - I am super excited about your new book, I’m buying 5 copies, one for me, one for each of “The Lopez Kids” and one to keep on my counter.  I crossed everything when I looked at your tour schedule hoping and praying you’d be in Northern CA, maybe later?!  In the meantime, I’m gonna be hitting you two up for some autographs, I’ll have to ask when I actually buy the books.  I’ll be dialing away to QVC Sunday to speak with you (you’ve been warned).  I’m excited for your next magazine and also waiting (patiently) for the Family Table to begin.  Love love love the parts you’ve shown in your blog and would love to see it as a regularly scheduled program, c’mon Food Network smile

How is Brook feeling - hope all is well.  Jack is adorable as usual, milk mustache and all!  Great update with so much exciting news, I’ll try to absorb it all now.

With much love and admiration - Tracey Lopez, Turlock CA

HI Jamie, It’s always nice to check out your new entries for the blog.
Will definetly be buying your new cookbook. Are you guys coming to the Atlanta Metro Cooking Show with your mom? That would be great, so I could get a signed copy there.
Hope you have a successful book tour.
Looking forward to checking out your new receipes.
The weather here in Georgia is perfect for Master’s Week. Have you ever been?

Your closing,“Do good things” was something my husband always said,“Do good things and good things will happen.“Sometimes it was hard for me to understand but as always he was right! We had no insurance when he died but a blessing came in the way of the 200 Club, they paid funeral expenses with some left over, what a wonderful organization! Be as you are and love your Mama!!!

Hi Jamie and Bobby!  Just a quick note to say y’all are yer mom’s pride n joy!!
I love the family-atmosphere of the shows, books, etc.  Now, I have a BIG
request.  I have just turned Vegan (don’t scream, y’all).  Can you two come
up with a wonderfully, deelish cookbook for those of us who really enjoy
veggies over meat.  No dairy, either.  If you need help with tastin’, let me know!!!  Love you guys,
Maryann
