Hey Y'all,

Bobby and I have been invited to travel up to NY for the day and do the Dr. Oz show on Wednesday.

I hope its not a surprise ambush intervention.

We are actually invited to give some recipes that taste great and are healthier versions of some southern classics. Who ever would have thought that a Deen would be a consultant on healthy eating! Bobby, of course, has been really tuned into a healthier diet for the last few years and I finally turned some things around after Jack got old enough to begin eating real food.

Y'all know while I was shooting Road Tasted a few years ago I gained a pound or two or...thirty. Brooke was also pregnant with Jack during the filming of our first season and that certainly didn't help. We would wake up and eat fast food for breakfast on our way to the first location where we would eat until lunch when we would eat and then go to the second stop and eat and after wrapping for the day we would eat dinner. That's five eats in one sentence. Five small meals a day is actually a good plan, not such a good plan when one eat is fast food, two are loads of sweets and the last two are full meals one of which includes beer. Add that to the feeling that I was eating for two as well and the next thing I knew its, "Boy, are my pants getting tight!".

I think I should write a diet book extolling the benefits of a three year old's diet. Maybe I will call it "The Three Year Old's Diet". I have lost weight pretty much eating what Jack eats and at the times that he eats and it's like a miracle. Think about it, small healthy breakfast, lite snack of pretzels, carrots maybe yogurt around 10:00, lean meat sandwich with crackers at lunch and a piece of fruit, some nuts and berries for late snack maybe some applesauce, grilled or baked protein with fresh veggies at dinner and a glass of milk at bed time.

Simple.

Y'all just do me a favor and buy the book when it's released although I just wrote the whole thing in one line.

Speaking of healthy eating, Jamie Oliver's new television show "Jamie's Food Revolution" is a show I try not to miss. Jamie has changed the way children eat at public schools in England and I have a ton of respect for the guy. He is one of the few folks in the TV food business I haven't had a chance to meet but I believe he is the real deal. Now TV being TV you are gonna get a certain amount of production in there, the tear jerk moments and the kinda set-up/pay off move but over all it's a recipe for success.

That's it for this week, thanks for checking back in....see y'all on the Dr. Oz show.

Do good things.

First off, can’t wait to meet in person on May 15th…in 26 days.  I can barely focus on work here at KSCS Radio in Dallas.
My kids are 7 and 4 1/2.  They will SNACK all day if I let them.  No wonder they don’t eat a full meal when it is time to sit down.  My son, 1st grader, will barely eat in the school cafeteria because he is rather picky.  I tell him he is spoiled that I am such a FABULOUS cook, Thanks to Paula Deen (and your chili recipe).  One of my new favorites is the Corn Spoon bread and the corn casserole—made with the box of Jiffy cornbread mix.  Last week, I added scallions and fresh jalepenos which were amazing flavors mixed with that sweet cornbread mix.
I am living proof that you can Cook and Eat Paula Deen specialties and still be thin.  You just have to maintain portion control and MOVE more than you EAT.  You boys have fun in NY.

Take Care,
Ronnie

Hi Jamie,

So glad you guys are into more healthy versions of Southern recipes, I find it very helpful in controlling my weight. Sounds like Jack’s diets is really good, add to that the amount of activity a three year old does and I think we would have a very skinny world!!!

Take care and look forward to watching you on Dr. Oz.

Awesome!  When will the Dr. Oz show air with y’all as guests?  I don’t want to miss it!

Jamie!

You know I will buy any book you write, but it seems to me, you will need to add just a little more content to it to call it a book!  You could write some of your wonderful stories….hint…hint….

You are just so busy!!!!  You should be able to keep the pounds off just running after yourself!!!

Hope you have a great week…

Will you please post a photo of “our” sweet baby Jack????
It seems like it has been so long…  Oh..You could be in the picture too!!!  wink..wink..

Just saw the episode where you and Bobby were sent out for beer for your Mom and ended up talking/staring at a cardboard cut out of a girl at the “beer” store!!!!  I think it was from before you were married.  Miss Paula was still filming in NY.  Bobby toting her around the store was priceless as was the look on your face!  You should forget about cooking shows…yours and Bobby’s comedic timing is dead on!!!!  You know, I ,for one would tune in every week!

Well I have bored you enough.

Like my friend, Andrea said….Happy 40th Birthday Robert Earl!!!  A little token will be coming to you at the Lady and Sons….Please watch for it!

Love you both!
Deb M

Hi Lisa and Phil!  Hope you both have a great week too!!!!

Love the Dr. Oz Show!  I watch it as often as possible.  He has so many great tips for good health and healthy eating.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think the show airs on the same day that it is taped.  So, can you find out when it will air and pass the info on to us?  It would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey Jamie!
I’ve been doing this form of exercise that is called: ‘Keeping up with my kids’! LOL smile  What a great workout they give me.  It’s all good!!  And your right, I eat according to their diet and it keeps the weight off too.  I break out into a ‘happy dance’ everytime they sit down long enough and to eat their meal.  Their busy little bees at this age!
I have my dvr set!  Looking forward to it!
Wish you and Bobby safe travels to NY.
Take care!!!

Hey anyone going to Paula Deen dinner at her house May 15th?
I was wondering if anyone wants to meet for dinner the night before at the Lady and Sons.  I think if we get at least 10 people we can make reservations.  Let me know as soon as possible.

brinkka2011 says: How is it that just anybody can publish a blog and get as popular as this?  Its not like youve said anything extremely impressive more like youve painted a quite picture about an issue that you know nothing about!  I dont want to sound mean, here.  But do you really think that you can get away with adding some quite pictures and not really say anything?
