Anybody want to come to Savannah and let me and Bobby fix y’all a sandwich?
September 21st, 2010

As y'all know, we love sandwiches - they’ve been a big part of our lives ever since our start with the Bag Lady. Brooke tells me all the time that I'm going to turn into a sandwich.......

That’s why Bobby and I are excited to announce that we’re working with the Grain Foods Foundation to encourage families everywhere to make one night a week Sandwich Night. We know from personal experience that everyone is pressed for time – the beauty of a Sandwich Night is that it’s a simple and healthy answer to the age old question, “what’s for dinner?,” and you’re getting at least two of your required six servings of grain foods each day. Just to make sure I usually get seven.

To help inspire busy folks everywhere, the Grain Foods Foundation has created an Endless Sandwich recipe database at http://www.gowiththegrain.org where y'all can download some of our favorite sandwich recipes and add your own sandwich favorites – we know you’ve got some good ones!

And don’t forget to enter for a chance to win your own Sandwich Night with me and Bobby here in Savannah! Come on down and let Bobby and I see what your favorite thing is to put between two pieces of bread.

Here are a few ideas to get your own Sandwich Night started - get creative, experiment and have fun!

o Set up a sandwich bar in your kitchen or on a table with a variety of different breads, meats, cheeses and veggies. Let the kids customize their own creations – you might be surprised what they put together! I always go for a fresh sliced tomato with banana peppers.

o Designate someone different to be in charge of Sandwich Night each week to get the whole family involved in identifying and putting together healthy choices everyone will enjoy. I have found that the more involvnment Jack has in dinner choices, the more he wants to eat "his Stuff".

o Add some sizzle to your Sandwich Night – set up a Panini press for those who like their sandwich hot or have a good old competition to see who can create the family favorite, that would have been just the ticket for Bobby and I growing up.

Speaking of sandwiches, Brooke is making meatloaf for dinner, y'all know what that means! Meatloaf sandwiches on white bread for dessert!

thanks for checking back in, now y'all get registered!

Do good things-
jamie

Oh my gosh, I am so excited, I can’t log on at work (but I can read your blog at work, hahaaaaaa) but when I get home I will definitely enter our favorite sandwich! My kids would absolutely love a sandwich night weekly for dinner, and they are teenagers - but I love your idea’s of letting each one take a turn being in charge.  They will embrace the weekly sandwich dinner night with enthusiasm I’m certain.  Currently, we do sandwich night monthly and it’s ALWAYS their favorite!  Look forward to winning and having sandwiches with the Deen Brothers (my kids will LOVE that too, Samantha met you but the boys want a turn smile).  The Lopez Kids will give this their A-L-L!!!
Always, Tracey

Hey, I need help finding a recipe.  Paula and Bobby did a breakfast show that I taped.  Watched it the other day and loved the spinach quiche.  I want to make it but accidentally erased it.  I’ve looked everywhere I can think of and can’t find it.  Does anyone have the receipe or point me in the direction of where it might be????  Thank you.

Love sandwich night.  Have it a lot as it’s sometimes easier than to make a meal.  Meatloaf sandwiches are the best.

We need pictures of you guys.  How’s the Family Table coming along?

Take care and HUGS, Jann

I forgot to add that it was the “crustless” spinach quiche.  Looked delicious.  Thanks.  JANN

in summertime, nothing beats home grown tomato between 2 slices of bread! add some bacon, lettuce, mayo, ground pepper.. and growl when someone comes too close..Ha!
in winter time, its grilled cheese with soup on side.
Or some left over turkey, mayo, hot sauce, bacon.. grilled as a panini. cranberry sauce on the side (if not Inside)

sandwich night is a great idea! make your own and easy clean up!

Hey, this is for Lisa.  I just went on the web and there was an article about Similac.  It said that the ones in the plastic containers contain bug larvae and can cause stomach ache and digestive problems.  Does not affect the liquid formulas.
There’a a hotline that you can call 800-986-8850.  I know you asked a question about Similac to us readers.  I hope this helps.
Sincerely, JANN

I would love to have y’all fix me a sandwich! It’s always me making sandwiches for everyone else. I love to spoil the men in my life, and one of my favorite things to do is to prepare creative sandwiches in my kitchen, package them up, and bring them to the guys after a fishing tournament weigh in, a football game, or the shooting range. One of their favorite sandwiches of mine, is my smothered meatball poboy sandwich with a creamy homemade cheese sauce.

Saw your tortilla casserole today and it’s very close to Texas heat. Here we use corn “dorritos” (I use the large white corn for flavor—I just like it better) and layer with the chicken, cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, Rotel chilies and tomatoes 10-12 oz.(diced for ease of use), and sandwich American cheese. Important to use the chips because of the crunch and lightweight. Layers same… chips, meat with sauce, cheese, twice. Do NOT crumble the chips. It will be soggy if you do. It’s just a variation. Hope you atleast try the jalepenos and tomatoes with it. I plan to try y’all’s too. All the best.

Hi, I just love your Mom and her great magazine. In May I was having lunch in The Lady and Sons. I took pictures and sent postcards to my Mom who lives in New Jersey.  My has talked about this ever since my sister and I dedicaed to take Mom for a Day in your town.  It is going to take my sister 2 to3 days to get my Mom to South Carolins and we are going to leave South Carolina and travel to Georgis to take Mom to your restaurant. I called for reservations and was told we had to have a party of 10 or more. Their will only be 6 of us. My Mom is 80 years old and on many medications and can’t go very long between meals.  If it was just us girls we could wait for as long as it takes to be seated.  But with Mom this is impossible.  My request is if you could arrange for us to have a reservation so Mom will be able to eat when she needs to and still be able to eat in the restaurant of her dreams.  Sincerely, Tish

Ilove making cold cut sandwiches and packing them in the cooler and having a picnic at the beach….roast beef, ham, turkey, whatever I have on hand, cheese, usually smoked provolone, and then either dijon mustard or creamy bacon ranch. We then top it with big leaves of romaine lettuce and a big slice of heirloom tomato and bacon if I have any. Would love to make one for you sometime. I make a great egg and ham breakfast sandwich too….
