Leading a healthy, active lifestyle
March 22nd, 2011

Thanks for checking out my new blog. I am excited to share some ideas, recipes and routines that I use every day to help me stay as healthy as I can be. It’s not easy with mom’s table just around the corner and the delicious food at The Lady and Son’s right outside my office door.

I am so lucky to have a great trainer and even better friend in Coach Sam Carter. He is the main motivator in my workout routines. I’m going to share some tips that even without Sam standing over y’all will get you results and make you feel better.

A few of the benefits to leading an active and healthy lifestyle are:

-It’s great for your heart

-You will look good and feel even better

-Helps fight sickness

-Energize yourself

-Makes you mentally sharper

-It’s free!

I’m going to start my new section just like a workout, with a warm-up. Here is a great healthy recipe for Fish Fajitas that you can work into your weekly meal plan that is easy enough to change up (Chicken, beef, shrimp instead of fish. Switch up the toppings.) and is good for your body but better for your taste buds.

-Now drop and give me twenty.

Great attitude, looking forward to more of these!

Bobby,

First, I would like to say “Thank You” for taking time out of your already busy schedule to do this get fit section. I look forward to learning from you and saving the expense of hiring a personal trainer. At least while I am a professional student. I’ll continue to pray for you and your family. I pray that this section touches more lives then you have dreamed of touching.

Blessings Always,

I am THRILLED to “smitherens” (catchy word, isn’t it!HA!) that ya’ll have this website, new magazine, shows, etc. Like millions of others, I absolutely L-O-V-E ya’ll!! Your Momma (in “MY” heart, soul and mind), is why I am alive right now (Long story!). My daughters (ages: 10,6,5)adore you both and your Momma and in their exact words to me, “I wish that when you get older Momma, you will be a beautiful grandma like Paula.” Jamie, you have a beautiful family (Brooke is gorgeous and so “natural”- she comes across to me as a woman that sees herself as being like everyone else—she’s not “snooty” and no matter how I’ve tried many hairstylists, I just can’t get my hair to be pretty like Brooke’s—HA! Seriously, they’ve all tried and I have given up)and my 5 year old says “Jack is a handsome of a boy!” (this is her words - she means he’s a handsome boy!)You and Brooke should have some type of “family” cookbook/show for families that want to eat together like a family should but in order to do this, need meals that can either be prepared together (together time)and/or good “sit-down” meals that are not complicated ( no 100 ingredients and some of them $20.00 for a special spice!)but “good for you” (health wise and sentimental) in that, it’s bringing the family unit together if not but for 15 minutes to eat at the same table even if it’s a busy life (soccer practice for one, piano lessons for another).Letting our children feel they’ve really helped bring together a meal makes US feel good inside to see them feel proud of what they’ve done and happy to be together and the BEST out of it all: MAKING MEMORIES (for them and for us to look back and remember their little hands putting banana slices on vanilla wafers!!) I admire ya’ll with the highest of praise!! Thank you for coming into our lives and I look so forward to MANY more years of “The Deen’s” ( EX.Jack becoming like his Grandma Paula on TV and making a huge successful and meaningful difference in people’s lives like she has and always will)

Hey BD,

Do you have any tips on how to get yourself motivated for exercise when it’s cold and gloomy outside.  I want to start walking again in the evenings.  But sometimes after a long day I just want to chill.

See ya,

Fabulous recipe….I love, love, love seafood and it’s awesome to see a new fresh way to prepare it…quick question though…I live about 45 mins out of Savannah, and I do travel to Savannah regularly…where do you suggest buying seafood from, there are markets here but I am very diapointed in them they are not very well stocked and I am a little concerned about the freshness of things like mahi mahi and tuna. You would think we would have a better selection living on the coast.HELP me please.

Hi Bobby,
Congrats to you and Jamie on the new web site and magazine!Getting healthy is one of my goals, so I’m very excited about your “Get Fit” section.  I have a question for you… I just signed up to walk a half marathon. I have to finish the race in under 4 hours and I have 8 months to get myself ready….Do you have any tips to help get me started training for this?  FYI: I already try to walk 3-4 miles, 3-5 days a week.
Thanks,
Debie

Can you please post a few recipes geared towards diabetics?  I get tired of the same old thing and would love to be able to add something new that shakes it up a bit but stays within the diabetic diet.  Thanks.

Love this idea and have subscribed through my Google Reader. When the feed comes through, though, all the formatting disappears. Everything meshed into one big paragraph.

My husband and I will be visiting Savannah in October this year and are looking forward to experiencing the restaurant ... the food ... and the hospitality.

Cheers to getting fit.

I have your cookbook and there are so many dishes I would love to try. At times, I find it hard to pare things down for one. So I wait for a occasion to make my parents my guinea pigs and try out new recipes. I have learned over time that I can make a lot of things just as well if not better than prepackaged foods. Fewer ingredients and no preservatives better flavor and I can adjust it for my mood.
I love watching you and Jamie cook with your mom. I love to pick up new ideas and techniques for my own cooking. Thank you for all the inspiration you give me.

Hi Bobby,

With it now being summer, I was wondering if you were planning on like a weekly, or even biweekly blog topic, that all can comment on and give one’s opinion and helpful hints.  Summer is an awesome time for farmer’s markets, fresh berries and salads….through in fresh seafood, and whambam, you have a winner….I need some ideas for swiss chard?  Growing it for the first time, and i was just going to substitute it in my recipes that I use spinach in??

Thanks,
Chels

Hey Bobby,

Love the food…I embraced the vegetarian lifestyle 9 months ago and doing pretty well. I wanted to know if y’all ever thought about researching and putting out a vegetarian cookbook?
If you do I know a few people who would be really grateful.

I was wondering if you have any baking recipes that would omit sugar and flour and use natural substitutions?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
